This maximum security facility opened in November 1989 as a way to confine Mississippi’s most disruptive male inmates. There is currently a capacity of 84 inmates, who reside within a double perimeter fence reinforced with razor wire and an electronic detection system. There is close custody of inmates at the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center, and this institution also operates the Mississippi state Secure Mental Health Facility, which houses inmates on death row.

Sending a Mail/Care Package

You can send letters and as many as 20 photographs up to 4” x 6” in size. Do not send Polaroid pictures or any picture that is sexual or violent in nature.

You can also send greeting cards to the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center as long as they are smaller than 8”x10,” and the card should be simple in design without any extra padding.

Sending Money

To send money, use a money order or cashier's check. You should make the cashier's check or money order payable to the inmate's name and ID number. On the check somewhere, include the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center, and housing unit, most likely you should put it in the memo field on the check.

Make sure you include your name and address on the money order.

Phone calls

The easiest way to help an inmate make phone calls is by depositing funds into a pre-paid telephone account. This will allow an inmate to make phone calls to a landline or a cell phone, and he can even call internationally. Calls can be made for a duration of up to 30 minutes, and will be monitored by the Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center staff.

Visitation

You need to complete a visitor’s application and be preapproved as a visitor. You can access an application at this link.

Remember that Henley-Young Juvenile Justice Center is a maximum security jail and you will need to dress conservatively and not bring in any materials to the prison.
