About FCI Cumberland

Located in Maryland near the state border, FCI Cumberland is a medium security facility that can house up to 1250 inmates. Some of the inmates are located at its adjacent satellite camp that is considered minimum security. FCI Cumberland is one of the few prison facilities that has a Residential Drug and Alcohol Program, which is part of the prison reform and rehabilitation program. This is helpful for inmates who might have committed crimes as a result of being on drugs and/or alcohol.

One of the ways an inmate can use his commissary account is by using it to place outgoing phone calls. Since an inmate at the FCI Cumberland cannot receive incoming calls, he relies on these funds to place external calls. As long as he has money in his account, and you are on his preapproved calling list, an inmate can make out going phone calls to you.

Visitation

Arguably the most difficult part of visiting an inmate at the FCI Cumberland will be getting pre-approved. It can be a cumbersome process. You will need to submit an application, go through a background investigation, and wait for the inmate to notify you that you have been cleared. Only then can you move forward with scheduling a visit.
