About Mid-Atlantic Regional Office

Located in Maryland, Mid-Atlantic Regional Office is a low security facility with an adjacent satellite camp that is considered to be minimum security. Between the two camps, up to 27232 inmates can reside at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office at any point in time. Until 2014, both male and female inmates reside at this institution. Due to overcrowding, the female inmates were transferred to another federal institution. First opened in 1940, there were originally several political prisoners housed at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office during World War 2.
