Sending Money

There are three main ways to send money to an inmate:

  1. Send money through Moneygram by calling 1-800-926-9400 or visiting the Money gram website. Inmates will typically receive the money within a couple hours.

  2. Use Western Union to send money by calling 1-800-634-3422 or going to the Western Union website.

  3. Lastly, you can send a money order in the mail, which will need to be processed through the federal prison processing system in Iowa.

Inmates will use the money to either buy items at the USP Terre Haute commissary or to make phone calls.

Phone calls

There are two things an inmate at the USP Terre Haute needs to be able to call you:

  1. You need to be on his preapproved list.

  2. He needs money in his commissary account. If there is no money in his account, he cannot call you.

Even though you cannot call an inmate, it is pretty easy to get him set up to call you.

Visitation

Once you have confirmed the whereabouts of an inmate, proceed with filling out a visitation application, so you can get approved for a visit. This will likely involve a background check, so be upfront about any criminal activity in your background. After you are approved you can schedule a visit.
