Located in Hawaii, about 125 miles east of Honolulu, FDC Honolulu is medium security facility, but also houses some minimum security inmates at a satellite camp. In total, up to 408 male inmates reside here at any time. Sending a Mail/Care Package

You are encouraged to send mail to inmates, just know that all mail being sent to inmates is going to be screened and inspected for contraband. Marking the envelope as “special” means that the FDC Honolulu staff can only open it in the presence of the inmate. This way, an inmate will know if anything has been removed from the mail.

Sending Money

You will want to send money to an inmate so that he can use the commissary or make phone calls.

To get money into an inmate’s account quickly, send it via Moneygram by calling 808-838-4200 or visiting the Moneygram website or through Western Union, by calling 1-800-634-3422 or going to the Western Union website.

Phone calls

The most important part of an inmate being able to call you is to make sure he has money loaded into his commissary account. If he has money, and you are approved, he can call you when the phones are available to him.

Visitation

The hardest part of visiting an inmate in the FDC Honolulu is the work you need to do before the visit. You will need to apply via the mail, go through a background check, and then wait for the inmate to notify you that you have been approved.
