The Ray Municipal Jail offers a unique problem instead of serving time in the Berrien County Jail. The “Pay-to-Stay” Program is available for qualified men and women who have been sentenced to serve time in jail, but want to serve it outside of Berrien County Jail.
Given the over population at Berrien County Jail, if an inmate is approved for this program it is generally preferred that the inmate stay at Ray Municipal Jail. Inmates will also have the option of spreading out their jail time, and serving a day or two at a time, while then returning home for family or work duties, before serving another day on their sentence.
With prior approval, men and women can stay at the Ray Municipal Jail in separate sleeping areas than other inmates.
Men and women will not be sleeping in the same living areas.

This fee is due before the first day of a stay in jail.
