Sending a Mail/Care Package

Inmates at the DC Central Detention Facility can send or receive mail via the USPS. It is processed Monday through Friday. Be aware that any mail you send will be open and read.

Inmates now have access to mail electronically. The mail you send will get scanned and delivered to inmates on tablets. Do not include any inappropriate messages or the mail will not be delivered to the inmates.

Sending Money

You can send money either at the kiosk in the lobby of the DC Central Detention Facility or by submitting it online. The lobby kiosk is open 24 hours a day, and at the kiosk you can pay by cash or credit card. You will need to know the inmate's ID number to deposit money.

It might take 24-48 hours for the inmate to have access to the money you deposit.

Phone calls

Inmates can make phone calls up to 15 minutes in length, and you should know the calls will be recorded and monitored.

Inmates can either call you collect or use a prepaid account. You can set up an account, and pay for minutes, online through Securus.

Visitation

Video visitation is available at the DC Central Detention Facility. Again, you will need to create an account ahead of time with Securus. After you have an account set up, you can schedule visits online.

The video kiosks for visitation are in the lobby of the Adult Detention Center (Annex), located at 1901 D Street, SE, Washington, DC, 20001. You can do a video visit any day of the week between 9AM and 11PM.

While it is a video chat, you will still be showing up at the DC Central Detention Facility. Remember to dress conservatively and not bring in any contraband items.
