When a person is arrested, they are initially transferred to the Central Jail, which is located at the Montezuma County Jail at 730 East Driscoll Street, Cortez, CO, 81321. Any inmate that does not leave on bond, will meet before a judge within 24 hours after arrest. It is possible for a misdemeanor, that an arrestee might be released without spending time in jail. If it is a felony, the judge will set bail.

Money Orders should be filled out to "Montezuma County Jail Inmate Account" on the "Pay To" line. If not, it will be returned to sender. Do not include any personal notes or letters addressed to inmates with a money order. Notes and letters will not be delivered to the inmate.

Phone calls

Inmates at the Montezuma County Jail cannot receive phone calls. Once they are booked and arranged in their housing, they will be able to make outgoing calls collect, as long as the receiver of the phone call accepts the phone charges.

The easiest way to visit is via a non-contact video visitation. These visits occur at the Montezuma County Jail Visitation Center located at 730 East Driscoll Street, Cortez, CO, 81321. You can visit daily between 7:45a.m. to 7:30 p.m, but only if you have an appointment.
