Maricopa County Jail has a Home Detention Program (HDP) for any inmate who is sentenced to 20 days or more in the Maricopa County Jail. There is also an Alternative Work Program (AWP) for inmates who are sentenced to 20 days or less. These programs help inmates serve their sentences in their Maricopa County homes, allowing them to still spend time with their families and also continue to work at their regular jobs. These are voluntary programs that are open only to minimum security/low risk inmates, and these programs should be considered a privilege, not a right. There are certain violent crimes that would prevent an inmate from being eligible in one of these programs.
