The Kodiak Jail offers a unique problem instead of serving time in the Kodiak Island Borough County Jail. The “Pay-to-Stay” Program is available for qualified men and women who have been sentenced to serve time in jail, but want to serve it outside of Kodiak Island Borough County Jail.

Given the over population at Kodiak Island Borough County Jail, if an inmate is approved for this program it is generally preferred that the inmate stay at Kodiak Jail. Inmates will also have the option of spreading out their jail time, and serving a day or two at a time, while then returning home for family or work duties, before serving another day on their sentence.

With prior approval, men and women can stay at the Kodiak Jail in separate sleeping areas than other inmates.

Men and women will not be sleeping in the same living areas.

The address for the jail is:

Kodiak Jail

Make sure you call ahead to 907-486-8000 if you are thinking about sending mail or packages.

Sending Money

While you cannot send money to an inmate’s commissary account like you can at some prisons and jails, an inmate must pay a City fee of $273.00 per 24-hour period in Kodiak Jail. This fee is due before the first day of a stay in jail. This money needs to be paid in cash or with a credit card, to the Kodiak Finance Department, any time on Monday through Thursday, between 7AM and 6PM.

Phone calls

While an inmate is at Kodiak Jail, he or she will have access to inmate phones as time and jail personnel permits. Inmates cannot receive incoming phone calls.

Visitation

Given the temporary nature of the Kodiak Jail, visitation is not encouraged. With inmates only serving 24-48 hours at a given time, there is not time to pre-approve and process visitors. Make arrangements to visit with the inmate before or after he or she turns himself into custody.
